So this being my first post and all I was wondering about what to post...and then "it" happened. What is it you may ask, you know, those thoughts that tells/asks you, "Chilllee...what is you doing over here? You know you ain't got it altogether so why is you here trying be deep and Holy posting about a different perspective to look at things when yours is MESSEd up, most times"". Yeaah. Those thoughts. I had in mind to relate something I've read in the Bible that I thought was very encouraging, but those thoughts stopped me. But then I remembered David. David is known for being a Man after God's own Heart orrrr He's known for His weakest moments of sin, but I saw a different side to him, He continually reminded himself, some would say encouraged himself towards the way of God and the things of God.
Psalm 139 is a perfect example. He started verse 1 by saying, " O LORD, you have searched me and known me", sounds cool, but then in verse 23 he said, "Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! What happened? Why did He feel the need to ask God to search Him after he exclaimed that God searched him and knew him? Well here's my theory:
God reveals Himself to David, Who He is to David and what David means to Him (all of us) ( Read psalm 139 for full context), in the process of David seeing God and who He is, He sees Himself, which doesn't quite match this Holy God. He had some thoughts and feelings that weren't all that Holy ( read verses 19-22). So what does that prompt David to do, ask God to show him( David) more of himself. That's never an nice inviting welcome to see the inner you, but the Hope we can gain from David's cry onto God is in Verse 24 the latter part.."and lead me in the way Everlasting". This gives Hope because it Tells you and I that in our process of us "getting it together", God is the one who will lead us to righteousness and make us righteous (being Just or Merited) ,not us.
A lot of David's Psalm starts off with him saying something about God or his state of being and he concludes or reiterates the same thing that was said in the last few verses. David reiterating serves as a Reminder that even when we know something to be true, we often get off course and have to remind ourselves of that same thing again or having to seek God for that same thing again.
Its Human to remind ourselves and God gives us space to express how we feel or sometimes He reveals what's in our hearts, not to condemn us but to lead us back to Righteousness, For His Name's Sake.
Amen, well said! A perfect word at the right moment.
