John 2:3-4
“The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus‘ mother told him, “ They gave no more wine”. “Dead woman, that’s not out problem, Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come”.
I‘ve always read this passage and seen in from a lens of disrespect, like who is Jesus talking to? Rightly, He is God, God in human form, He can do anything. The response blocked me from seeing the bigger picture...until now.
What‘s interesting to take notice of is Mary. She saw a need or concern and knowing Who her Son is and who He represents, she found it most sensible to take it to Him ( this sums up what we should do when we pray). We should take our concerns whether of ourselves or others to Jesus, because He has the power to fix it.
Yet, another interesting point to take notice of is Jesus’ response, not the “seemingly disrespect” that came from Him, but the words itself. “What does that have to do with me?” in essence is what Jesus said, which seems weird because scriptures tells us He is concerned or cares about us, but that’s not where He was coming from when he said that.
God is a God of order and time. He works according to His Will in the time He sees best. Jesus had the power and capability to perform the miracle, which He did, but He did it discreetly because it wasn’t the time for Him to be known by everyone for the things He can do and essentially, for who He was.
We can all take a note from Jesus’ book on timing, or rather, the timing of the Father. Jesus was more concerned with fulfilling the Promise and timing of His father than He was to be known and accepted.
The “Up” part in all this seemingly “down-ness” is that we will never have that mentality, by ourselves at least. As Jesus was concerned with the Father’s Will above all else, we too can do the same because we have The Spirit of God living on the inside of us to guide us on the same path of being God centered and not People centered.
We have an example to follow as our Guide when our limbs are too weak to depend on to carry out the Will of the Father. We have the written word and the Holy Spirit working in and through us to accomplish the Will of the Father concerning our lives.
Philippians 2:13 “ For God is working in you, giving you the desire and power to do what pleases Him”.
