Overtime what you will discover that joins each human being together is that we value our productivity. We like to do, because it makes us feel accomplished and productive, a whole lot better than feeling worthless and as if we're wasting time.
The Israelites understood this level of "productivity". During and After their exodus out of Egypt, The Lord taught them strategically what Holiness was and how they were to Be Holy.
The era in which the Israelites lived was the era before Jesus came, which means they had to make the sacrifices (Exodus 24:5-6), they had to select the best suited animals to do this (Malachi 1:14). they had to honor specific days (Exodus 13), they had to follow, to the T, each law that was written (Exodus 20) and they had to consecrate themselves regularly (Exodus 29). In essence..... they had the foundational work of what holiness was and they had to function in it. The best example I could give is how people had to function and go about their daily lives without technology, everything was manual!
After Christ came thousands of years after, He abolished the work of the law, because who He was/is, embodies everything that the law said. He is the perfect sacrifice, He is our Sabbath (Hebrews 4:9), He is the one who consecrates us and makes us Holy (Hebrews 10:14) and ultimately He is the One who intercedes on our behalf on a daily basis (Romans 8:34) when we can't do it.
In Philippians 3:9, we see an emphasis being placed on our faith in Christ Jesus that makes us righteous and not our own effort in obeying the law (the Mosaic Law that is).
He took the place of the old way of doing things and our tireless effort in trying to keep the law and He fulfilled it by Becoming everything we will ever need for this Christian journey and life. Our effort and works were replaced with Faith in Jesus Christ, the God of the disadvantaged who can't defend or deliver or save themselves. He became our God, the God who steps in on the behalf of those who can't do it themselves.
Philippians 3:9, " I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law, rather, I become righteous through faith in Chris. For God's way of making us right with himself depends on faith".
